Setting up
Create an account in the app. It emails you a setup link: open that on a laptop. The setup guide walks through the Gmail filter with a picture for each click, and ticks each step off as it works.
Gmail then asks Card Spend whether it may forward. If the request comes from the Gmail you signed up with, we answer yes for you within seconds. If it comes from a different Gmail, a Confirm forwarding button appears in the app instead: tap it once.
Gmail won't let you add a forwarding address from the phone app, which is why the laptop step is there.
I use Outlook or iCloud Mail
Only Gmail is supported right now. Support for Outlook and iCloud rules is being built. Email us and we'll let you know when it's ready.
A spend is missing
- Check your bank emailed you about it. Some banks send only an SMS for small amounts or certain merchants, and Card Spend can only count email.
- Check the email is from a bank in the list (Settings → Bank alerts shows it). Alerts from a bank we don't read yet are kept aside so we can add it.
- Spends from before you set up forwarding need a one-time import: Settings → Bring in past spends.
A category is wrong
Tap the spend in History and choose the right category. Leave Apply to every spend with this payee on to fix all of that payee's spends at once, including future ones.
My savings account payments aren't showing
They're off by default. Turn on Settings → Include bank account spends. This works for ICICI and HDFC savings accounts. Card bill payments and transfers between your own accounts are never counted.
A card's bill or due date looks wrong
The app learns each card's billing cycle from its statement emails. Until the first statement email for a card arrives, there's no bill forecast for it. To mark a bill paid, long-press the card's row on the Spend tab.
Stop forwarding
In Gmail on a computer: Settings → Filters and Blocked Addresses → delete the Card Spend filter. Then remove the address under Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
Delete your data
Settings → Delete account and all data erases your account and every spend straight away. Then remove the Gmail filter as above.
